Glenn Morris
Morris progressed through the academy at the O’s and was part of the strong youth side that beat Bradford City to win the Football League Youth Alliance Cup at the Millennium Stadium in 2001. In charge of the team was future first team manager and director of football Martin Ling. Morris was soon rewarded with a first team start on 16th October 2001 in a LDV Vans Trophy match away to Dagenham and Redbridge. With the scores tied a 2-2 in the ninetieth minute, the match continued with both teams able to secure victory via a “golden goal”. Ultimately, the Daggers obtained the win through defender Lee Goodwin. His next senior start came six months later when manager Paul Brush selected Morris for the final two matches of the season; a 1-1 draw at home to Exeter and 1-0 win away to Kidderminster Harriers. Over the next few seasons, Morris would feature sporadically in the team and struggled to obtain a consistent run between the sticks. During the 2005-06 promotion campaign - with Martin Ling now in charge - he made just five starts, keeping three clean sheets in the process. Three years later, the 2008-09 season saw Morris feature on thirty occasions; at the time his most appearances in a single season. However, the side’s poor form saw manager Ling sacked in January and former Colchester boss Geraint Williams soon brought in as his replacement. Williams would last just fourteen months at the O’s and was replaced in April 2010 by Russell Slade who chose to release Morris that summer. The goalkeeper had made one hundred and fifty appearances during his time at Brisbane Road, and later played for clubs including Southend and Gillingham.
